The Final Weekend of the QoS (part 2: Speed Scraps)

The final weekend of the QoS competition offered an incredible schedule of speed scraps, and I did them all but one! 😉

Friday evening, instructions:

  1. You can choose any number of pics, but make your main pic BIG
  2. Your background paper must be a primary color—red, blue, yellow (any shade)
  3. I want some blocking squares—at least four.
  4. Let’s see a bracket (or two), use it/them anyway you like
  5. Add any elements you want, but you must have one element cluster
  6. Use an alpha somewhere on your LO other than the title
  7. Title/date/journal/shadow to your heart’s content

Saturday morning, instructions:

  1. Choose your pictures, but YOU must be in at least one of them.
  2. As many (or few) papers as you’d like, but at least one of the major papers must be worn or aged. (That means the worn paper can’t be just a snippet or mostly hidden)
  3. Add a border to at least 2 sides OF YOUR LAYOUT. Paper, stitches, trims, doesn’t matter, but give your LO a border on at least 2 sides.
  4. Hang your picture.
  5. I want to see three different metal elements. That means the same staple repeated three times doesn’t count.
  6. NO TITLE!
  7. Embellish as you wish. Don’t forget to add shadows AND journaling!

Saturday afternoon, instructions:

  1. We are going to start differently today. We are picking kits first. Choose a kit that is different from one you would normally use…maybe different colors…different elements…something that will stand out from the rest of your gallery.
  2. Choose multiple photos…arrange them however you want — on the same side of your layout.
  3. Choose however many papers you want…but your main paper (the one we see the most of) must have a pattern.
  4. The word for choosing your embellishments is layering. Choose whatever embellishments you want…and layer them up. When working with layers…think 3D…flattest stuff on the bottom (glitter, paint, etc)…and puffiest stuff on top (curled ribbons, flowers). Really think about your shadows too.
  5. Select everything on your page (except the background papers) and make them a little smaller and move them over a little (whichever direction your want – up, down, left, right).
  6. Use an alpha for your title…but you cannot arrange your title in a straight line.
  7. Journal…a little or a lot. Date and save.

I didn’t actually complete this one because after instruction #5 was posted DH came home and I had promised we would go and buy him a digital piano, so I stopped and finished the page after we came home. 😉

Then I did a matching page too:

Saturday evening, instructions:

  1. OK ladies…we are going to KIS (keep it simple) tonight. In the spirit of Queen of Scrap and the many many pages you all have been churning out, we are going to do a simple page. I want to see clean, simple, neat pages. Instruction #1 is to pick 1 or 2 photos.
  2. Choose and use only 2 papers.
  3. Use one element repeated many times on your page. They can be different sizes and colors, but the same basic element. Example, hearts sprinkled that are different colors and sizes, but all hearts. (you can also use other elements)
  4. Use at least one staple on your page. I almost never haver a page without a staple, they are my favorite! Get at least one on there please.
  5. Use wordart on your page, doesn’t have to be the title.
  6. Since the rest of our page is simple, use a fun font in your title to add some interest. I mean not regular Times or Arial, something fun or funky.
  7. Date your page. Journal if you like, but I am not requiring it this time. Usually I always journal, but since this page is simple, you can leave it off. Sometimes the picture and title say it all.

Of course I had to scrap DH’s new piano! 😉

I’d been wanting to use this mini kit by Britt for a long time, and I finally had the right pics! 😉

I skipped the Sunday afternoon speed scrap because I was on a scrapping roll on my own, but I couldn’t miss the grand finale Sunday evening.
Instructions:

  1. Our QOS contestants have been reaching way back in their stashes to make their LO’s. So follow their lead and choose photos that are at least 2 months old. As many as you want, as long as it’s more than one.
  2. One of your photos must be crooked, the others straight.
  3. One solid, one patterned paper.
  4. Cluster your elements in one corner.
  5. The majority of your elements must fall off the page. Put two near your crooked picture.
  6. Can you say alpha? Use on somewhere on your page..doesn’t have to be the title.
  7. That’s it! Shadow, journal and date.

OK I must admit I’m not very happy about this page.. It turned out a bit cluttered.. I think these pics didn’t go well with the instructions but I didn’t want to go back and start over. 🙂

There’s a bunch of LOs from the weekend I haven’t posted yet, but will soon.

I Speed Scrapped!

Last night I was on a roll and after completing 4 pages, I decided to join a speed scrap (the first I’ve done in months!) because the partecipation prize by Britt was just too tempting. 😉

I started a new series of LOs:

There were the instructions of the speed scrap:

  1. Pick you pictures, one or many. But alter the main photo in some way. Turn it b/w, sepia, do some selective coloring, run an action, etc.
  2. Pick ONE background paper. Okay, I’ll feel sorry for you. You can use up to three more papers, but keep them small. Mostly use the one background paper
  3. Duplicate your main photo and blend it into the background.
  4. Hang your picture with something.
  5. Embellish as you wish, but be sure to include a critter, an insect, and something leafy.
  6. Add a COOL date element.
  7. Use an alpha that is NOT from the main kit you’re using for the title. Shadow, journal, etc.

and here’s my page:

I’m glad it’s Friday, but because of the QoS competition I have the feeling this weekend will be far from relaxing.. 😛

A Speed Scrap!

Last night I hung out at TheDigiChick (it’s a really nice place, the best for hybrid tips, and I’ve been hanging out there more and more, lately) for a chat, and I ended up speed scrapping! I hadn’t done a speed scrap in ages (I checked: my last was in November!) but I loved this one.

I was tired last night, since I’m always pretty tired on Fridays and we met in the chat at 10 P.M., so I decided I wouldn’t scrap; but then after all the instructions were posted, I felt I wanted to try it out, so I did a page I’m very happy with.
These were the instructions:
  1. Choose 1 solid paper and 1 patterned paper. Crop the patterned paper into a rectangle approximately 5 inches high. The strip should extend horizontally across your entire background paper from edge to edge. Place the strip in the center of the page.
  2. Choose 1 photo and crop it into a rectangle shape. The photo can have any effect or be black & white. Place the photo in the center of the page onto of your patterned paper rectangle. You can use landscape (horizontal) or portrait (vertical) photos ~ just make sure in a rectangle shape.
  3. Choose 1 doodled frame and place it BEHIND your photo. The entire frame can be showing or just the edges, and the frame can be tilted. Then choose 1 ribbon frame and place it ABOVE your photo.
  4. Now have some fun. Layer as many embellishments as you want around, under and above your framed photo BUT make sure that you have at least 1 piece of greenery, 1 flower, 1 heart, and 1 piece of string.
  5. Choose one butterfly and one bird and place them diagonally across from one another at two corners of your photo.
  6. Choose a tag and place it at the bottom right of your photo. Place your journaling, names or dates on the journaling tag.
  7. Choose an alpha. Create a three word title for your page. Place your title at the bottom right of your photo, near your journaling tag.
and here’s my page.

LO Backlog

IF YOU’RE HERE ON THE BLOG TRAIN, SCROLL DOWN! 🙂

**********************************************************
I’ve made a few LO in the past couple of days but didn’t have time to post them here. So I’ll remedy right now!
First let me show off a fun LO I did for the challenge at Sugarplum Paperie. I love how it turned out!

Everything by Sugarplum Paperie:

Whimsy Doodle (collab with Amy Sumrall), Glitzy Bits, Little Bits.

Next, there’s a LO I did at the Speed Scrap hosted by Britt yesterday night at ScrapMatters.
I was very tired, but Britt’s unusual first instruction made me want to stay till the end. And it was totally worth it!!
These were the instructions:
  1. You have to use a template. Find one that works for the pics you want to scrap. There are no rules on number of photos.
  2. Place your photos and basic papers into the template. Use at LEAST one pattern paper.
  3. Add at least 1 frame. You can add more.
  4. Add something black. Anything black will do other than text. Text doesn’t count.
  5. Use a repeating word somewhere on your page. Be creative.
  6. Let’s title our page now. Use more than 1 alpha.
  7. Time to finish up!! Journal if you’d like to. Don’t forget to date your page. Embellish however else you’d like.
And here’s my LO:

Finally, I started scrapping our Halloween pictures, and I did this for the photo challenge at SM.

Yes. It took me forever to do the extraction. But that cute lil’ bat deserved it! 🙂
More Halloween LOs to come soon. 🙂

Speed Scrap

I’m coming from tonight’s Speed Scrap at ScrapMatters. And of course, I couldn’t refrain from doing another zoo LO! 🙂

Here are the instructions:
  1. Choose at least 3 photos and arrange them as follows: One is substantially larger than the others and the smaller ones are lined up together along a side of the larger photo.
  2. Use at least 4 papers. Be creative, use as BG, mats, shapes, etc.
  3. Use ONE frame to frame all the photos together.
  4. I want to see a really good layered element cluster, I LOVE clusters!
  5. Use something from nature on your layout.
  6. One word title, use an alpha.
  7. Journal at least three sentences, DATE, and post!

I do feel there’s something missing somewhere.. Maybe some elements on the bottom? Hmmm… I’m way too tired to do anything about it now. 🙂
But let me say one thing: I’m proud of that feather!!!! When I read the instruction about putting in an element from nature, somehow I thought about putting in a feather, found one in my scrappin’ stash, and recolored it to taste: and there we go! 🙂

Speed Scrap at SM (Zoo LO)

I speed scrapped last night and had a blast!!

I sure had a great night, because I finished this in little over an hour, and I love it! 😉
The speed scrap (at ScrapMatters of course) was hosted by haynay and these were the instructions:

  1. one solid, dark paper, used as the background. One patterned paper used in any way on the page (other than background). No more, no less.
  2. 3 photos: 2 must be the same size. The other one must be smaller than the 2.
  3. One frame only, but that frame needs to have a cluster on or behind it. (I want to encourage you to use drop shadows—especially with the clusters)
  4. Use a hanger anywhere on the page.
  5. Must use something shiny on the page: can be metal, glitter, bling. I don’t care; I just want some shine!
  6. Title: Use 2 alphas please.
  7. Date your page. And, you can journal…BUT, you cannot journal any more than 2 sentences. It will work if you have no journaling at all!

I used the beautiful kit I was RAKed with last week, Chilled Wine!
Here’s my LO, Fancy Birds:

I used the beautiful kit I was RAKed with last week, Chilled Wine!
I just recolored the alpha & frame slightly to match the pictures, and that was it! I love how I was “forced” by the instructions to pick a dark paper – I might not have thought about it otherwise, and I think it looks great with these pics! I usually choose pictures first, and papers next, but this time, following the instructions, I picked the kit first, then stumbled upon these zoo pictures (yaaaay! Another LO done! 🙂 ) and tried them out: perfect! 🙂
OK, enough rambling.. But I’m seriously in love with this LO! 🙂

In the Choir

I speed scrapped Thursday night at ScrapMatters (hosted by Bree!).
It was really speedy, because I had brought home some work, and was working and scrapping at the same time.
Here are the rules

  1. Choose a photo, 1 only!
  2. Choose your papers, you can have as many as you want, but you must have a least 1 solid and 1 patterned paper. One of the papers must be used to create a shape (any shape), you can use paper shapers, clipping masks….whatever, just as long as you create some type of shape from a paper.
  3. Take your photo and repeat it in some way. You can repeat it as many times as you like, but it must be the same photo. You can blend it into the background, stack it etc, as long as the photo appears on the page more than once.
  4. Frame your photo/s (if you have blended one, you do not need to frame it, but you do need at least 1 framed photo on the page. Hang your frame. If you have used multiple frames, at least 1 of your frames must be hanging.
  5. Embellish your page any way you wish!!
  6. Title your page. You MUST use an alpha for some of the title, but you can’t use it for ALL of the title. Mix it up!!
  7. Add journaling if you wish, date and save!!!!!!
The other night I didn’t do any journaling because I was in a hurry, so, today I added in the journaling, and here’s the result.

Speed Scrap at ScrapMatters

I did a speed scrap at ScrapMatters tonight! I had missed the last few so I’m especially glad I was there for this one.

I think it was one I finished in less time!
Here’s the instructions:

1. Choose three photos. No more, no less.
2. Chose two solid papers. Use one for the background, the other to mat your three photos. They can be three individual mats or one mat for all three, your choice.
3. Use something metal to attach your photos to the mat (i.e.: staples, brads, clips).
4. There must be a star somewhere on the LO.
5. Add a swirl somewhere.
6. Title, you must use word art. You can make the word art yourself!

7. Journal, date and post.
and here’s my LO:

I’m very happy with it!!
Of course, it will become a 2 pager, because actually planting the spruce in the garden was quite an adventure! 🙂

Speed Scrap

Speed scrap last night at ScrapMatters, hosted by Denise!

Here’s the instructions:

1. Choose your photo. You can only use one and …and here’s the toughie…you must be in it!!!

2. Choose your papers. You must have at least 2 papers, and one of them must have a pattern.

3. Attach your photo to your page. You must use something metal, and it cannot be a staple.

4. Use something in your layout that is hanging…a clip, a charm, a tag…it must be hanging off something.

5. Create a small cluster of elements. You may put it wherever you want, but you need to attach it in some way. Embellish however else you want.

6. Title your layout. You must use an alpha in at least part of your title, and…wait for it…your title must have a number in it.

7. Date your l
ayout and add journaling…even if it is only a few words.

And here’s what I came up with:

I’m happy with this LO. I did some photo editing to improve the picture and it really meant a lot.
Plans for today? Next to new sale at our Chuch, and then, the zoo!!! 🙂

Busy week!

8/8/08 was not only the opening of the Olympic Games, but also the re-opening of ScrapMatters, which meant a lot of fun challenges and giveaways.

I tried to take part in as many challenges as possible, and did the record (for me) of 9 LOs in one week.
So here’s the first LO I scrapped last week:

Credits:
One Fine Day kit by Matahati (partly recolored)
Harvest Spice Alpha by Shabby Princess (recolored)
Brass Round Alpha by Curlywirlytwirlygirlies
Serenity staple by KsharonK

I did this in the first Speed Scrap hosted by Erica Zane (BTW I love her style, check her blog out here) and I’m really pleased for how it turned out. I love those colors.

Finally, I did the Speed Scrap # 20 hosted by Bree on 8/14 and I loved it so much that I had to do a matching page to go with it:

Credits:
Background heart paper (recolored) from EZ Shrubberies Add On by Erica Zane
Ribbons and bows (recolored): New beginnings by Raspberry Road
Glitter Heart: I’m A Dreamer Add On; Glitter Splotch (recolored): Summer Fling; Black Bead Alpha (part recolored); string from I’m A Dreamer: Britt-Ish Designs
Black paper and dotted paper (I used a font on the black paper to make is as it is now) and pin (partly recolored) from Friday Flea Market collaboration kit at ScrapMatters
Gifts and tag from Happy Birthday by Digiscrapbooking.ch
See Clearly Alpha by Misty Cato

I did the left page for the speed scrap and then did the 2nd page for 2 challenges at the same time.

I’ll open separate posts for some of the challenges I did this week.
