Fridge Magnets

For a very long time I’ve wanted to try to make fridge magnets. I bought the fundamental material (glass marbles and magnets) months ago (at WalMart and Michael’s respectively) so this weekend I decided it was time to give it a try.

First off, I printed out the designs for my magnets. I used Amy Sumrall’s super cute kits, Oh So Happy, Berry Sweet and Little Bunny Foo Foo.

I printed on normal paper and cut the designs out. Then, I applied a thin layer of Mod Podge on the circles as I normally do for sealing, but this time I put a glass marble on top. I liked that you can still move around the paper to center it properly, but then the Mod Podge dries off pretty quickly as usual.

Then, I used some tacky glue to glue the magnets to the paper+glass marbles. I just put a drop of tacky glue on the magnets and adhered the paper+glass to them. These need to dry a bit longer than Mod Podge, but within 10 minutes my magnets were ready to go on the fridge!

The glass marbles magnify the design below and the final effect is so pretty! Even DH appreciated the final result! 🙂

I put off this project for a really long time because I wasn’t sure which glue would work for attaching the magnets, but in the end the glue I had worked beautifully! I’ll be doing more of these for sure. 😉

Keyholder Frame

I worked on a very cute little project this weekend, inspired by Mari Koegelenberg’s project featured on The Hybrid Chick blog.

I showed Mari’s post to DH before creating my own keyholder frame and this is actually the first project that got endorsed by DH! But I anticipated this would happen, since DH always loses his keys in the house and not once, but twice has managed to lock himself out of the house… :-/

So, I picked up Amy Sumrall’s super cute Berry Sweet kit and prepared the digital bits and pieces.
I was super lucky because I found a white frame at the Dollar store and bought white hooks at Lowe’s, so I didn’t have to paint anything. Not that it would have been a big deal, but it saved me some time! 🙂
I used my favorite material, frozen pizza box, 🙂 to create the backing for the tags.

I used Mod Podge to glue the tags on the chipboard and some ribbon and eyelets to pretty them up; I had DH help to screw the hooks in and the frame was ready in no time! 😉

Here’s the detail of the tags: I created one for DH, one for me, one for the car keys and one for the shed, plus an unnamed one. 🙂

It’s really cute and I think I might make some seasonal changes too. I chose summery colors which are perfect for now but I would love to change it in the fall, and for Christmas!

(Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures, but the frame is hanging in a poorly lit part of the house and today’s a rainy day.. Since I added 2 glue dots to the back to keep it more stable when keys are hung/picked up, I didn’t want to take the frame down just because I needed better pictures. 🙂 )

Just A Sneak Peek

I worked on a very cute little hybrid project today, but unfortunately it was almost dark when I finished it so I couldn’t take good pictures of it. I’ll take a few tomorrow, and post more pictures of how I did the project, but for now I want to show just a little sneak peek of the final result:

It’s Time to Vote!!

The entries for Week 5 of So You Think You Can Design have been submitted and it’s time to pick which of the 8 designers is your favorite.

You need to be registered to DigiScrapAddicts to view the kits and vote, but I strongly recommend it: the kits for all 5 weeks are still available and there’s some gorgeous stuff there!!
Here’s Amy Sumrall’s entry for week 5: she totally rocked an 80’s kit!

So once you’ve made up your mind, go and vote here!!
You only have time until Sunday to vote, so do it now!

Quiet Week

I haven’t scrapped much at all this week! I did a super fast page on Monday, and one last night.
I had a couple of hours of scrapping time last night but wasn’t in the least inspired, until the end when I did one page (that I’m very happy about too).
Here’s the page from Monday:

Children’s Day is the kit Amy Sumrall entered in Week 4 of the SYTYCD contest at DigiScrapAddicts and it’s just so pretty! (you have to be logged in to view the entry)
The main theme is children, of course, but look how nicely the kit worked for this picture of my husband!
And the crayons in the kit are just gorgeous – she even provided brushes and a beautiful crayon alpha!

DH made homemade butter on Sunday while I was scrapping out my last pages for the Queen of Scrap competition 🙂 but I did manage to sneak in and take a couple of pictures of the final result (including the splatters of cream all over the kitchen), of course!

Woot!!

Before I get back to posting LOs from the weekend (and I won’t be doing that until later today or tomorrow), let me toot some great news from Saturday: I am in Amy Sumrall’s CT!!!!! 😀
She picked me as a hybrid gal and that quite surprised me (I love hybrid but I still consider myself a digi girl at heart! 🙂 ) but I’m sure we’ll have lots of fun! 😉

Amy Sumrall CT

In the meantime, Amy’s in the final round of the SYTYCD (So You Think You Can Design) contest at DSA (digiscrapaddicts) so check out her designs and vote for her this weekend (Friday through Sunday)!!
She seriously rocks: she always picks the best color palettes, is a great doodler and is now CU (commercial use) free!!!
